I was going to bury my mother’s ashes in her beat up circa 1970s LV Speedy until I found out her Catholic faith didn’t allow it ( she passed away last year). And so now I have sold my newer LV bag and carry her beat up one proudly - it is like she is still with me❤️
This made me emotional. I love that ultimately you kept her bag and you still wear it with scratches, scuffs, and all...this is such a tender way to keep your mother's memory vibrant. Your comment reminds me why I like clothes and the stories behind them.
read with love on my work laptop which i will soon shove into a ginormous, bright blue see by chloe bag that i got for £35 on vinted. no it's not an it bag, it's my big sack of stuff and i love it so much! why is it sky blue?who can say! it has 3 pockets and a drawstring top and i carry it with me EVERYWHERE and will do until i die!!!
Same here some guy at Costume National back in 2011 he was older and Asian but looked like a baby. So I followed him one day to West Broadway where there was this tiny cute shop corner of Prince. And he was buying Nuxe but a lot of Nuxe so I took a mental note or pic on my blackberry and ran. But I became a regular there according to my bank statements for the Nuxe Mervaillance cream. It smells like mimosa or orange blossoms but not in a sweet way and my skin. Well I’m 44 and no Botox yet but my arm can be twisted. The point is but stock in NUXE
it feels like bag trends - as in, the carry-it-around-daily kind - shift at a glacial pace compared to the rest of womenswear because it's far more trouble to keep moving your daily essentials from one bag to the next (all those pockets to empty!!) than it is to get yourself out of an outfit and into the next one.
I seriously considered an old City bag c. 2022 but was brought back to my senses by the knowledge that it'd likely end up a neverworn now. Instead ended up with two colours of the Lanvin Happy Sac, a different discontinued bag from the 00s that's like the polar opposite of the City in vibe and they're now my 'home' and 'away' (as in, work/out of town respectively) bags, like football kit.
And I've always loved the look of beaten-to-death LV bags, something about that brown colour scheme just suits being scuffed and a bit grubby (admittedly this may be because my fashion coming-of-age part 2 was during the era now known as indie sleaze, and a part of me will always be drawn to glamour of the scruffy, these-are-just-things kind exemplified by MKO and her battered bags or Kate Moss in a 1930s silk dress that she had to impromptu turn into a mini because Courtney Love accidentally stepped on the train and tore it).
I'm looking up this Lanvin piece. Lol re the glacial pace and bags...yes a woman's bag is such a THING. A true investment. Also I want to swab my bag...it's "grubby" but in a really heinous infectious way.
"Kate Moss in a 1930s silk dress that she had to impromptu turn into a mini because Courtney Love accidentally stepped on the train and tore it)" a favorite story!
Do you want to do a NEVERWORNS closet psyche? I'll DM you.
It's quite a ladylike bag but not in a stodgy way, it originally came with a grosgrain ribbon threaded through the chain handles and tied in a bow - and the handles are convertible so the ribbon tends to get quite shredded! I guessed it was worth getting when someone on TFS favourably compared it to Chanel - and the leather certainly held up.
(also - I would be honoured! I'm so sorry I delayed replying to this as I was travelling most of this week and last but after I get back on Sunday I would love to, even if I don't know what my neverworns would say about me lol)
I love this. My own version is a beat up ATP Atelier bag that used to be pink and brown, but is now like a gross liver paté colour with grey straps. But I love it. It keeps all my stuff. It hangs perfectly on my shoulder. And so far it still stands up on its own.
THIS! "cycling through It Bags doesn’t give them enough time to acquire our essence." The examples you gave about your family are fabulous. I wrote a piece a while back about wearing beat-up bags...I noticed something about French men specifically this past week: They really have great pieces, and they all look REALLY worn...really weathered briefcases and wallets. It made them seem more...elegant. in a way? On that note: Keep wearing your stuff out!
NOTE: I annoyingly tried to delete my own comment to add to it (AH) but this was the original comment from the user @betsypeggy! She had great things to say. I found it and I am reposting here.
"We imbue our personality into the things we wear, and cycling through It Bags doesn’t give them enough time to acquire our essence. Just like digging through my grandma’s worn-in square dancing shoes, my grandpa’s western shirt mended at the elbows, my mom’s wonkily-stretched class ring, my dad’s jeans with creased outlines in the pockets for his wallet and keys, I want people to know my worn-in Fossil shoulder bag and stained Dooney & Burke crossbody were MINE. They’re the only two bags I’ll ever want or need."
This! I was just in Milan and had this observation about people on the street with beautiful handbags and briefcases that were beautiful because they were worn in and used!
Omg it was Thompson Chemists! And they get handy with the samples and give a “neighborhood discount”. No I don’t work there for Nuxe or anyone 😩. Just saying 🤗

Hell yeah. This is what I call...worn...and schlepped with love!
I love Nuxe! So underrated 🤫
Nuxe or bust...my coworker recommended to me eons ago! I love it.

This was one of the funniest things I’ve read in awhile.
Thank you <3
In general I mean. Like anywhere.
The more faded and worn the better, leave the crisp bags for Canal St
