I can never deny the utility of a good tote/big structured bag but they carry such strong maternal connotations that I don't think I can bring myself to go there for another decade yet (sorry mum, I love you and your posh black totes). They're undoubtedly v. useful but it's impossible to feel footloose and fancy-free, or unburdened anyway, with one.
and so here I am, carrying an oxblood one the size and shape of a briefcase, and its smaller black sister which is just about big enough to fit a fat wallet, phone, keys and lip balm/stick and maybe a little tube of sunscreen if I push it. The first reads "I came here from work" if I ever take it anywhere that isn't the office, the second isn't sexy but is perfect for touristing (the usual bum bag just feels like a "PLEASE MUG ME" sign over my head). But I would like to experience more decorative smaller (but not absurdly small) bags e.g. the Lanvin Happy, it's such a pretty bag.
Tumi! It's from many years ago and actually a crossbody with a detachable strap plus the briefcase-style handle, think iPad sized, not laptop sized (it's a touch too small to fit A4 papers but has lots of pockets).
I found the brown version of my bag on ebay if you want a visual on the shape/style: https://www.ebay.com/itm/303137765196 but I've also seen Tumi bags identical to mine going for much less on TRR - I think simply not being clocked as a 'fashion' brand means the handbags don't cost all that much there even if they are leather.
Along with an oversized tote crammed with bags, I carried around issues of W, Vogue and Elle because (of course) phones were not the geniuses they are today...
Handbag-sized magazines (Teen Vogue, Glamour UK edition, assorted indie mags pre-08) were such a genius move, the promise of actually fitting in a not-huge bag and not near-spraining my wrist if I tried to hold it, was usually enough to get me picking one up. Too bad they couldn't survive in the era of phones :(
I have the large telfar shopping bag in eggplant. The amount of “essentials” it carries comes in clutch, but I’d also love to wear a baguette bag with a singular pencil in it on campus just once.
By the time I get home from the office, my sad sack inevitably not only has a laptop, but also loaf of bread, a canned good or two, and an onion. Talk about a load 🤡 . Loved this story!
i've been attempting to use my LV neverfull for college, but my lower back just can't hack having textbooks, my old ass laptop, and books in it at once.
I low-key have been lusting after a neverfull because it is the quintessential luxury schlepper and it is a bag that can metamorphasize however the person wearing it wants it too....(also looks great will some killer wear on it) but also yes lower back...someone needs to invent an ergonomic hauler

Who makes the oxblood piece? I like the sound of it...

Honestly, I want to be the girl with a solo tic tac in her bag...

The bigger the bag...the bigger the possibilities ... and more crap to cram!

very appropriate read as i lay here, my shoulder slick with vicks vaporub because i carried heavy totes yesterday
Honestly I think there are health repercussions! I would have bruising on my shoulders from it...knots, too...this seems like a follow-up story
