My boyfriend used to chase me around the apartment threatening to pinch me with his toes whenever he wore his pair; I was utterly repulsed!! But I think I owe him an apology because I have been tempted to snag a pair myself for a couple months now........ a horrifying development.
I think you've nailed it with their being the next boundary pushed now that tabis are normalised, we need a shoe that actually brings the shock factor of early tabis back.
Love how the boot version in your pic looks like a paw, I've spent all summer watching videos of twin baby pandas in a South Korean zoo so I've been seeing a LOT of paws and I love it, feels a bit like acknowledging our animal sides? It's the flats with the crisscross strap that got me, though, something about the pretty little crisscross combined with individually outlined piggies just gets me.
You know what sucks though? If you’re someone, like me, who’s second toe is longer than your big toe you can’t wear theses shoes. I tried to buy some years ago and they don’t fit at all
My partner wears these socks for health reasons (fucked up feet from years of soccer) - continue the five toe feeling in the wintertime!! https://www.injinji.com/
I still believe, as I always have, that shoes like that are proof that we live in a world that has been abandoned by God. However. I also believe that shoes are generally pretty bad for feet and that these are likely very comfy. I do like the pairing of them with the green Kelly in that photo. There’s wit to that juxtaposition.
This was the exact level of chaos I needed today. The way you describe the “phalangeal pleasure” genuinely made me choke-laugh, and then halfway through I suddenly found myself…considering a pair? The cultural arc from co-op aisles to chic girls in Rome might actually convince me we’re entering our toe-forward era.
Don’t forget the wonderfully atrocious vivienne westwood animal toe heels (vintage the rerelease just don’t do it for me). The sneaker pump version are particularly spicy!!
ever since I started ruminating on bringing back the childhood joy of being barefoot in the grass this shoe has been there promising to bring it back. Begging everyone around me to understand where I’m coming from so they’re not toooo shocked when I rock up
my love to fivefingers started with “painted toe nails” midorikawa collab, i even ended up getting two pairs and haven’t looked back since. i wish to find that leather mm6 pair on resale once :)
Very interesting as always! I guess my biggest question would be if they have health benefits or help recover a tired foot. More than say, a Birkenstock. I tend to wear leather loafers as my footwear uniform to work, so when I am off-duty, are these worth buying into?
began the newsletter repulsed, finished the newsletter intrigued
how most of my dates go

Yes as a zero drop wide toebox girlie I am so happy

I actually feel like we will swing back to more traditional, beautiful shoes in a few months. We’ve hit peak digit!
fashion meets foot-health finally, stunning, love it, ADDS TO CART

praying for your toes to slip into the leather mm6 one day...

I can't speak to the health benefits--drama with that and the FiveFingers! BUT they feel incredible, at least for me. Might be worth a try!
I can also how someone who never shows their toes and wants to can "prepare" the room with these... LOL
Love my pair! They feel so provocative when I wear them out haha
