NEVERWORNS has launched a new season. How it will go: NEVERWORNS episodes will first be shared with paid subscribers here on Substack. For this edition, you’ll see the video before it publically drops and hear the unedited audio interview. (I had to upload the audio because it’s that good—Tish Weinstock is a riot.) There will be other fun components in the future, too, which I am frothing at the mouth about. This is a fun season because the NEVERWORNS team, director Sarah Lou Kiernan and assistant Simone Carrillo, shot the first three episodes while I was massively pregnant. I’m shocked I didn’t crown during filming.

We are kicking this new NEVERWORNS season off with Tish Weinstock, a writer, an editor, and the author of the just-released, wickedly researched book How to Be a Goth: Notes on Undead Style, which Anjelica Huston aka Morticia calls “A celebration of darkness.”

For the uninitiated NEVERWORNS is not a closet tour, but more like an interview…a visual essay about the clothes we don’t wear but choose to hold onto. I loved this episode because Tish is what I would call a London It girl. A chic sorceress with a pair of peel-them-off Dolce & Gabbana trousers and a stunning, otherwordly Victorian-era face that belongs in the Victoria and Albert Museum. The It girl shtick has always fascinated me. Of course, great clothes are involved in the universe of It girldom. Tish hauled stellar pieces across the pond to show us, which include an indie sleaze Alexander McQueen skull scarf, a skanky-chic pair of chocolate brown suede, coin-slathered Dolce & Gabbana pants, and Karl Lagerfeld-era leather and silk Fendi going-out top.

Sure, Tish has an epic, well-curated closet. But the It girl thing goes beyond being able to put a great outfit together or even having a really good eye. Tish has a throw-caution-to-the-wind British bite, and there are funny, lived-in stories behind these pieces. There’s hilarious personality here.

A bit of background: Tish has a classic teenage story. She grew up in the posh universe but wanted to rebel. One of the first examples of being a pissy teen was her affinity for wearing dog collars. “My family is very traditional,” she tells me. “And I think I was like, ‘I need to not dress in a traditional way. I need to offset.’”

Tish became obsessed with the underground and being an outsider. During out interview, she cites The Craft (1996) and how she felt like a “weirdo,” sleeping in her eyeliner to the point of getting styes. “I was like, okay, I can’t really do the pushup bra, and I wasn’t blonde, and I didn’t know how to be like the hot girl. So I was like, ‘Oh, I know what I'll do. I'll lean into the witchiness.’”

Here, dive into Tish’s wardrobe and learn about her internship at i-D Magazine (she’s now a contributing editor at British Vogue), the goth state of the world, her stint as a Row-wearing yummy mummy, and a lot more.
