Rando Report: Louboutins Are Back
And a perfect pair of rhinestone Gucci sunglasses, air-up-the-thigh pants, red hot citations.
I wrote a piece this month in The New York Times about how Louboutins are back in a new, cheeky way, but I wanted to riff a bit more.
I first noticed toe-choking Louboutins on singer Addison Rae, dancer Lexee Smith (who works with Rae), stylist Dara Smith (who also works with Rae), and influencer Devon Lee Carlson (she once got a smoothie with Rae). A slew of girlies. And these girls really wear these vertiginous heels out, down, and in. Rae said it herself in a GQ video that she bought a new pair of heels from the Loub store and walked out in them. “If you see me out and about, you’ll most likely see me in Louboutins … if not on, they’re always in my car for easy access. Just in case!” she wrote via email.
I remember Louboutins in their pristine form from my mid-2010s magazine days. It was the shoe du jour of women in the corporate side of fashion: the girls in public relations and marketing. Prim, polished, and manicured with a blowout perpetually bobbing on their domes. If you were working in the New York City fashion industry, chances are you met a woman with no cuticles and a raging heel-induced case of plantar fasciitis.
